Leigh (Orcutt) Augustine, originally of Niskayuna, New York, earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2003. In 2004, she moved from Alfred to North Bennington, Vermont with her husband, Chadwick. Bread was opened at 25 Main Street in the fall of 2005 as an artist studio and showroom for Augustine. During the time Bread was located in North Bennington, it represented 16 different artists at its peak, both local and far-reaching. In the summer of 2006, the physical location of Bread was closed to allow Augustine to pursue interests elsewhere. In addition to making art, Augustine is also an Early Educator, and has tended the interests and imaginations of young people at the Early Childhood Center at Bennington College and the Alfred Montessori School as lead teacher. Augustine was a frequent guest artist at the Vermont Arts Exchange, teaching weeklong workshops to pre-school age children. She has also taught workshops to adults on a myriad of art related topics, such as alternative art-teaching methods and working with open-ended materials. More recently, Augustine ha turned her interests to the Museum arena as a vehicle for delivering big ideas to little people. In 2008 she lead a photography workshop for pre-schoolers at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and is currently working as an Early Childhood Educator at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Leigh and Chadwick live and work in Brooklyn, New York. |
